Australian journalist Cheng Lei has thanked Australia for its support after she finally arrived home yesterday following three years imprisoned in China. Ms Lei was arrested in August 2020 and accused of illegally supplying state secrets overseas. The Australian reports the federal government learnt of a deal in the past fortnight to secure her release, which involves her pleading guilty. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has confirmed her case is closed. Ms Lei has now spent her first night of freedom in Australia with her partner and two children.
