The Labor government “cannot believe” the Coalition is opposing the $15 billion National Reconstruction Fund and “annoy” business and manufacturing, says Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell. The government is still confident it can win the support of Greens and crossbenchers to pass the legislation through the Senate, as the Greens have requested coal and gas projects be removed from qualification for the Fund in return for their support. Energy Minister Chris Bowen’s 'Safeguard Mechanism' legislation which seeks to install a carbon credit scheme is set to be a “bit trickier” for Labor however as the Greens request coal and gas projects be exempt as well. “The government is not ready to bend on that yet,” Mr Clennell said.
