Fifty-five thousand Pacific Island workers are set to land in New South Wales on Monday as work begins on gathering up to $8 billion worth of harvest. New South Wales Deputy Premier Paul Toole is close to finalising a deal with the federal government to fast-track their arrival to November 1. Mr Toole has been in talks with Foreign Minister Marise Payne to bring fully vaccinated workers from seven countries including Vanuatu, Samoa and Tonga. Desperate farmers recovering from droughts are eager to cash in on a crop of canola and barley estimated to be worth $6 billion and horticulture worth $2 billion.
