Sir Richard Branson is in town this week to launch the Australian arm of his cruising business, Virgin Voyages. His vessel, ‘The Resilient Lady’, has a value of around $1 billion, is adults-only and is one of three ships in the Virgin Voyages fleet. Controversially, it will be based in Port Melbourne until August next year, despite its competitors, Carnival and Cunard boycotting that location from 2025 because of a 15 per cent hike in port fees. It's the first time in more than 20 years that Branson has launched a Virgin company in Australia, not since the airline Virgin Blue, now Virgin Australia launched in 2000. Branson now owns five per cent of the Australian airline. Ortenzia Borre sat down with Richard Branson for a one-on-one interview, in which he lashed out at the Australian government for allowing Qantas to uphold an unfair advantage over the airline industry.
