Coles and Woolworths to be grilled by Senate over rising prices

Coles and Woolworths will be grilled by a Senate inquiry to investigate their market power and pricing decisions as Australians face a cost of living crisis. The inquiry comes amid concerns they have profiteered during an inflationary period marked by fast-rising food costs. Former ACCC Chair Professor Allan Fels says there needs to be an “in depth” investigation into the supermarket giants and the Senate inquiry is a “very good start”. “The number one concern of the public is cost of living and within the prices they are charged especially for essential things,” Professor Fels told Sky News Australia. “So this will start to get to the bottom of that.”
