Russia launches first spacecraft to the moon in nearly 50 years

Russia has launched its first mission to the moon in nearly 50 years with the Luna-25 aiming to touch down on the south pole where smooth landings are rare. The lander is expected to arrive on August 23 in a space race to beat an Indian rocket launched last month. The lunar south pole is believed to contain water which could be transformed into air and rocket fuel.
