A new report is calling for a deadline to stop new household gas connections in order for Australia to reach net zero emissions by 2050. The Grattan Institute's 'Getting off Gas' report shows gas currently accounts for 22 per cent of the nation's carbon emissions. It's calling on federal and state governments to work together to switch homes from gas to electric and ban the sale of new gas appliances. Around five million homes and businesses in Australia currently use gas.
