Queensland is set to legislate its 80 per cent renewable energy target by the end of the year. The state is moving towards phasing out coal-fired power by 2035. Renewable energy consumption is set to rise to 50 per cent by 2030 - currently 24.9 per cent of Queensland energy consumption is renewably sourced. Drafted laws guaranteed jobs for 900 workers at government-owned coal fired powered stations throughout the transition.
