Prince Harry claims the Royal Family withheld information of phone hacking from him because they believed it would “open a can of worms”. He made the allegation in a written statement submitted before his claim against Associated Newspapers in London over alleged phone tapping and other breaches of privacy. The Duke of Sussex and his fellow claimants’ witness statements have been made public, providing an insight into what they all knew and when. “The Institution made it clear that we did not need to know anything about phone hacking, and it was made clear to me that the Royal Family did not sit in the witness box because that could open up a can of worms,” Prince Harry said. Prince Harry also explained why he thinks what he describes as a “cover-up” needs to go to trial, saying if the most influential newspaper company can successfully “evade justice” then in his opinion, the whole country is “doomed”.
