The Albanese government has redoubled its efforts to defend the price caps decision in the recently passed energy bill. Gas giant Santos has criticised the bill calling it a “soviet-style” interference. Energy Minister Chris Bowen defended the bill, saying “96 per cent of gas sold in Australia in 2021 for under $12 at an average price of $9.20.” “We are just simply requiring gas companies to sell in 2023 for what they sold 96 per cent of their gas for in 2021.”
