Former Howard Government Minister Peter McGauran says, “there’s got to be a greater supply of gas” in Australia but “you can’t turn that tap on very quickly”. “There’s a shortage of gas in Australia and to a large extent what gas has been developed is now going overseas so they have to encourage exploration,” Mr McGauran told Sky News Australia. “Now we we’ve got serious problems here and somehow, they’ve got to work out how to keep much of that gas currently being exported by an energy world, an energy dependent world here in Australia.”
