The Queensland government has announced its bold new energy plan to phase out coal-fired power by 2035. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk revealed the world's largest pumped hydro plant will be built in the Pioneer Valley, west of Mackay, to aid the transition. As part of Queensland's plan to reach 80 per cent renewable energy by 2035, Ms Palaszczuk stated the state's coal-fired generators will be repurposed into green energy suppliers. The initiative is expected to create an estimated 100,000 jobs over the course of the scheme.
