New inquiry reveals Australia has significant gaps in its digital economy hindering its productivity levels. The Productivity Commission has released its second interim report in a five-year inquiry. “We’ve found significant gaps," Productivity Commission Commissioner Stephen King told Sky News Australia. "Data analytics is an area where we’re falling behind. We don’t have great internet speeds by international standards and it’s not necessarily as reliable as businesses need moving forward.” Mr King believes we will be able to fill some of these skills gaps through migration as well as continuing skills training domestically. “To get productivity growth in Australia, we have to think about growth in services. To do it we need to work out ways where services can be delivered smarter”. These issues are expected to be discussed at the upcoming jobs summit next week.
