The French tax office has resorted to using AI software to detect unregistered swimming pools, with €10m already raked in by the scheme. France requires private swimming pools to be registered, where they are taxed an average of €200 per year. Many of the estimated 3.2 million private pools in France are unregistered, meaning they don’t pay any tax. The French government has introduced drastic new measures to collect it – with French tax officials using a software developed by Google and Capgemini as part of a program which will soon be rolled out across the country.
