Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says the “underlying fundamentals” of the Australian economy are “very sound”. Discussing the recently released unemployment figures, the Treasurer said, “yesterday’s job numbers were remarkable”. It comes as Australia’s unemployment rate for December fell from 4.6 to 4.2 per cent. “The unemployment rate today is 4.2 per cent – compared to 5.7 per cent when Labor left office,” Mr Frydenberg told Sky News Australia.
