Heathrow Airport is calling on the British government to scrap pre-departure testing rules for vaccinated passengers. The measures have forced the cancellation of more than 600,000 flights in December. Heathrow Chief Executive John Holland-Kaye says the aviation industry can only recover if the rules are lifted. Only 19.4 million passengers passed through Heathrow airport in 2021, less than a quarter of the amount seen in 2019. The International Air Transport Association forecasts passenger numbers will not reach pre-pandemic levels until 2025.
