Shadow Minister for Women and Education Tanya Plibersek says the government should not withdraw financial support “too quickly” as some industries will be impacted by COVID-19. “It’s obvious to everyone that payments can’t go on forever but we are worried about some part of Australia, some locations, and also some industries,” she told Sky News Australia. Ms Plibersek said after JobKeeper was withdrawn earlier this year, a “couple hundred thousand jobs were lost” because of how suddenly the support payments ended and does not want to see a repeat. “Even at 80 per cent vaccine rate there will be some restrictions in the economy and we don’t want to see supports withdrawn from those too quickly,” she said.
