Nationals Senator Matt Canavan has remained steadfast in his opposition to net-zero emissions targets – saying his loyalty comes first to the workers and families he represents. "Especially here in Central Queensland – tens of thousands of them rely on the coal industry," he told Sky News Australia. "The UN said the other day if we were to go to net-zero emissions we'd have to end coal mining in Australia by 2030 – so that's just not something I can contemplate or trade-off – I don't operate like that." When asked if there was any chance his position could change – Mr Canavan said he could not see the possibility of that occurring. "I'm always just upfront with people – and I don't see that arising as any possibility."
